Lyn Lapid performing in Pittsburgh, January 29.

Singer-songwriter Lyn Lapid will perform in Pittsburgh on January 29.
A classically trained musician, unpredictable vocal dynamo, and fearless genre-breaker, Lyn Lapid asserts herself as an individual through and through. At 21-years-old, the Filipino American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist has unassumingly emerged as an unapologetic and undeniable voice for her generation. In 2018, Lyn started to build a following by posting covers of artists like Daniel Caesar, H.E.R., Ariana Grande, Edith Piaf, Sarah McLachlan and many more, where she amassed over 60 million-plus views and counting on her channel. In late 2019, Lyn launched her TikTok page, building an audience of 5 million followers and over 1 billion views at a rapid pace. Meanwhile, a snippet of her first original, “Producer Man,” exploded. Produced by Dan Nigro [Olivia Rodrigo, Conan Gray], the song gathered over 70 million views and 8 million likes and exploded as “the most-viewed unreleased demo on a TikTok video in 2020.”

Following the breakout success of “Producer Man,” she debuted a string of viral releases in 2021, including “Itsy Bitsy,” “Infinite,” and “In My Mind.” The latter eclipsed 111 million Spotify streams and counting and paved the way for 2022’s acclaimed The Outsider EP. Along the way, she received co-signs from Billie Eilish, BTS’ Jungkook, and Sabrina Carpenter, toured with Eric Nam, Ricky Montgomery, and Claire Rosinkranz, and earned praise from the likes of Rolling Stone, Billboard, Buzzfeed, E! Online, Refinery29, HYPEBAE, Idolator, Ones To Watch, and more.

In June 2023 the songstress maintained her prolific pace with the follow-up, to love in the 21st century EP. She supported the project by selling out all 20 cities on her first nationwide headline tour that summer. Amassed over 700 million streams to date and with more music and touring on the horizon, Lyn Lapid has affirmed herself as a star on the rise.
The show at Thunberbird Cafe & Music Hall in Lawrenceville (map) starts at 7:00 pm and tickets for the all-ages show are available online. VIP tickets including a meet-and-greet are available as well.

Bayanihan Mural Unveiling at Philippine Center of Pittsburgh, November 26.

The Philippine Center of Pittsburgh will host a Bayanihan Mural Unveiling on Saturday, November 26.
Since 2018, the Filipino American Association of Pittsburgh (FAAP) has been working on making the Philippine Center a building to call “home” for the Filipino community in Western Pennsylvania. FAAP has been working with Eliseo Silva; a renowned Filipino artist with over 35 years experience creating murals and more than a hundred award-winning public art projects, exhibits, and installations all over the world; to develop a mural which embodies the Bayanihan* spirit. The installation of this mural will finally give this building its “heart.”

Join us this Saturday, November 26 from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm for the unveiling of the mural and a meet-and-greet with the artist. Refreshments will be served at this free event.

Reserve your spot here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/bayanihan-mural-unveiling-tickets-472110393897

*“Bayanihan” is known as the Filipino spirit of communal unity to achieve a goal. It can be traced back to rural Philippines where the town’s people were asked to help move a family’s entire house to a new location. In order for the volunteers to carry the house, approximately twenty volunteers would move in unison, carrying bamboo poles that were secured underneath the house. This image is central to the mural.
The Philippine Center of Pittsburgh is located at 200 Church St. in West Mifflin (map).

No Lunar New Year parade in Squirrel Hill in 2022.

via @LunarNewYearPGH

Although one website is promoting a parade next week, there will not be a Lunar New Year parade in Squirrel Hill in 2022. The Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition shared in its newsletter:
Happy Lunar New Year! We look forward to welcoming the Year of the Tiger on February 1st with celebrations lasting for two weeks. The Year of the Tiger will be marked with big changes, risk-taking, adventure, and enthusiasm – both for ourselves and for others. Sadly, there will be no community celebrations this year due to Covid-19.
The Lunar New Year parade has moved up Murray Ave. in Pittsburgh's Squirrel Hill neighborhood since 2016, capping a couple weeks of festivities, performances, and dining specials in the area. In spite of this year's hiatus, one tourism website atop the Google results does suggest the event will run on February 1 and 2; however, this Ukraine-based website has simply copied-pasted last year's article with a suggested 2022 date.
